POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Technician I is responsible for preparing, processing, and evaluating laboratory samples as per established procedures to meet customer’s expectations for different markets.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop powder coatings using established templates under direct supervision of a Chemist /Group Leader or Lab Supervisor

    1. Work in an efficient way to meet customer expectations.
    1. Maintain a laboratory notebook and formula records as needed.
    1. Weight up and blend raw materials per written formula with strong attention to material identification, weights, and conditions of the blend.
    1. As needed, extrude, mill, sieve, apply and bake powder coatings with attention to equipment settings and safety protocols.
    1. Use all lab equipment to test and evaluate powder coatings.
    1. Perform coating characterization tests as per established SOPs and internal procedures.
    1. Maintain work area and equipment in good working conditions.
    1. Other duties as required by supervisor.
    1. Some administrative tasks will be necessary to support the laboratory.
    1. Work under the direct supervision of the Chemist /Group Leader or Lab Supervisor.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITY 

This individual will be expected to work in a group environment under the supervision of a team leader. He/she will be expected to use good judgment, and ethical decision-making abilities when testing and reporting data obtained during laboratory testing.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodations.

    1. Ability to operate machinery.
    1. Able to lift to 25 lbs.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

    1. High School diploma is a must.
    1. Have a very good understanding of percent, conversion units and basic arithmetic is needed.
    1. Some college courses are a plus.
    1. Organizational skills essential.
    1. Laboratory and/or coatings experience are a plus.
    1. Good verbal communication skills and the ability to work a part of a team or under direct supervision is essential.
    1. Spanish speaking is a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee must be able to communicate clearly with others and must be physically able to stand, walk, reach, climb or balance, and kneel. The employee must be able to occasionally lift or move up to approximately 25 pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include close and distant vision and color vision.
