POSTION LOCATION: Houston, Texas

POSITION OBJECTIVE: The Powder Coating Technician II is responsible for developing, preparing, processing, and evaluating laboratory samples as per established procedures to meet customer’s expectations for different markets.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Use knowledge and understanding of raw materials to formulate powder coating that meet customers’ requirements as per LWR
  • Work in an efficient way to meet customer expectations
  • Have a very good understanding percent, conversion units and basic arithmetic
  • Test and evaluate powder coatings
  • Maintain a laboratory notebook and formula record as needed
  • Weight and blend raw materials per written formula with strong attention to material identification, weights, and conditions of the blend.
  • As needed, extrude, grind and sieve materials with attention to equipment settings and safety protocols
  • As needed, apply, and bake powder coatings
  • Perform coating characterization tests as per established ISO, ASTM and internal procedures
  • Maintain clear and up to date technical data and project records
  • Maintain work area and equipment in good working conditions
  • Other duties as required by supervisor
  • Some administrative tasks will be necessary to support the laboratory
  • Work and support Quality Control with batch adjustments and troubleshooting as needed
  • Must demonstrate ability to work independently

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITY: This individual will be expected to work in a group environment under the supervision of a team leader. He/she will be expected to use good judgment, and ethical decision-making abilities when testing and reporting data obtained during laboratory testing.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodations.

  • Ability to operate machinery
  • Able to lift up to 25 lbs.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 1-2 years of working in powder coatings or 5 years of other coatings formulation experience
  • High School diploma is a must.
  • Associate or Bachelor of Science (BS) is preferred, and coatings experience is not required with a BS
  • Organizational skills essential
  • Laboratory and coatings experience are a plus
  • Spanish speaking is a plus
  • Good verbal communication skills and the ability to work a part of a team or under direct supervision is essential
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel, and Word knowledge is required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The employee must be able to communicate clearly with others and must be physically able to stand, walk, reach, climb or balance, and kneel. The employee must be able to occasionally lift or move up to approximately 25 pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include close and distant vision and color vision.
