Zinc rich coatings contain a high percentage of zinc dust and acts sacrificially when in direct contact with steel. They are applied to protect steel surfaces from corrosion and extend the surface’s life. Zinc rich coatings additionally provide cathodic protection to metals similar to cold galvanizing.
Zinc rich coatings contain 65-95% metallic zinc in dry film, with 92-95% being common. The powders can be sprayed onto the steel. When spray applying, feed lines should be kept as short as possible to prevent the settling of zinc dust and uneven film coats. Zinc rich coatings can be applied in either the shop or the field.
